The credit reporting agencies are Experian ,Trans Union and Equifax. These agencies are not affiliated with the government. They make a profit selling your personal information to creditors for credit and insurance offers, employers, landlords but worst of all they sell your private personal information to telemarketers and mailing list companies without your permission. These agencies absolutely do not have your best interest in mind. The credit bureaus admit to errors but they go on to state it is not their job to ensure the information is accurate.
According to the Government Accountability Office, 80-90% of credit reports have serious errors on them.
Each person is responsible to prove that their report is inaccurate and inform the agencies of the same.
